Welcome to Black Sheep Bakery!

First off, hello! I am the owner and operator of Black Sheep Bakery (BSB), Caroline Black. I am a returning Raleigh native, but the story of BSB spans a decade and at least four different states! I have loved baking ever since getting my first Easy-Bake Oven as a child. I read comics about bakers, collected cookbooks, and watched any baking show I could get my hands on.

As a young adult, I followed a different passion and went to school for botany which lead me to moving to NM, VA, and eventually Austin, TX. While there COVID hit and, as it did for many others, the lockdown allowed my love of baking to be reawakened. It was then that I also found the vintage cake style that cemented my desire to finally commit to baking. After seeing other people succeed as cottage bakers, I decided to finally follow suit and launched Black Sheep Bakery in 2022!

In 2023 I moved back to my hometown of Raleigh and brought BSB with me. My goal with Black Sheep Bakery is to eventually open a community focused coffee shop/bakery that will hopefully become a safe place for people to gather and host events.

Fun fact, the name is not only a reference to my surname (Black) but also to my grandmother who would sing “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep” to me and my sisters!
